Perthshire Preserves has been producing handmade and award-winning jams, jellies, chutneys and marmalades with the finest quality Scottish produce since 2010, but this is the first time that the family-run firm has teamed up with Edinburgh’s Fingal, which was developed by the award-winning team at The Royal Yacht Britannia.
Based in Callander, Perthshire Preserves owners Iain Mackenzie and Kate Thornhill both have a hotel background in food and beverage. Iain is also a former Merchant Navy Officer with Cunard Line, so he is being drawn back to his nautical roots by partnering with Fingal, which is berthed on Edinburgh’s waterfront.
Perthshire Preserves is providing the special new strawberry jam as part of Fingal’s new afternoon tea menu, which will be served with the ship’s buttermilk scones and clotted cream. It is hoped that the sweet treat will become a firm fixture on Fingal’s afternoon tea menu beyond National Afternoon Tea Week in August.
Commenting on the new partnership with Fingal, Iain Mackenzie from Perthshire Preserves said:
“We’re extremely proud to be teaming up with Fingal as part of National Afternoon Tea Week in August and hope our partnership continues far beyond this special annual occasion.
“My Merchant Navy career spanned over 20 years, so I’ve spent much of my life at sea and still love seeing ships sailing to far off destinations. One of my lasting memories of life on the ocean waves is serving afternoon tea to around 1,800 people on the Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), a retired British ocean liner, which was also converted into a floating hotel.
“It now seems especially fitting to be teaming up with Fingal, as Scotland’s only luxury floating hotel and former Northern Lighthouse Board tender ship, which brings back so many special seafaring memories for me.”
Fingal is launching the mouth-watering new afternoon tea menu to celebrate ‘National Afternoon Tea Week’ on Edinburgh’s waterfront. Served daily from 12.30pm until 3.30pm in the ship’s Lighthouse Restaurant and Bar, Fingal’s galley team have created the new afternoon tea to offer guests and non-residents one of the most decadent and dainty of British traditions in a world-class foodie destination with a nautical twist.
Providing a classic setting for diners to enjoy afternoon tea, Fingal has all the glamour and style of a superyacht, but with an air of old-world Art Deco luxury ocean liner elegance, inspired by the ship’s rich maritime heritage. The former Northern Lighthouse Board tender ship was developed by the award-winning team at The Royal Yacht Britannia, which is located just 10 minutes away.
Savoury highlights of the new afternoon menu include Fingal’s own hot smoked salmon with cucumber relish; petit pois and mint arancini; lamb and harissa pinwheel; as well as leek and pancetta tart.
Those with a sweet tooth can also look forward to Dulce de Leche chocolate and hazelnut tart; peach and strawberry panna cotta; passion fruit macaron; as well as coffee and banana éclair.
An extra special Champagne Afternoon Tea is served with Moët & Chandon Impérial. An extensive range of speciality teas and coffees are also available.
Fingal’s Chef de Partie, Arleta Juszczyszyn said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Perthshire Preserves on board Fingal as part of our new afternoon tea menu. Their handmade Strawberry and Champagne preserve is the perfect match for our buttermilk scones and we’re proud to be supporting one of Scotland’s finest local producers, based just over an hour away from the ship.
“To celebrate National Afternoon Tea Week this August, our dedicated galley team have created a mouth-watering new menu that embraces the most decadent and dainty of British traditions, including Perthshire Preserves and our unique Scottish salmon smoked on board Fingal.
“Located on Edinburgh’s waterfront, Fingal offers our guests the glamour and style of a superyacht, but with an air of old-world Art Deco luxury ocean liner elegance, inspired by the ship’s rich maritime heritage.”
Earlier this year, Fingal was named one of the top 20 luxury hotels in the UK by TripAdvisor users. Fingal also captured travellers’ hearts as one of the top 25 most romantic hotels in the UK and Channel Islands for 2022, coming in at number 11 on the prestigious Tripadvisor category of most ‘Dreamy stays that couples love’. The 2022 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards are based on the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and ratings posted on TripAdvisor over the 12-month period from 1st January 2021 until 31st December 2021.
Open to non-residents for Afternoon Tea, dinner and cocktails, Fingal’s Lighthouse Restaurant & Bar offers a choice of eight self-contained private dining booths for small pre-booked groups. Fingal’s 23 luxury cabins are each named after Stevenson lighthouses, inspired by Fingal’s rich maritime heritage. The ship is now the ultimate in luxury accommodation and dining.
Fingal’s new Afternoon Tea menu is priced at £45 per person, or £55 per person for the extra special Champagne Afternoon Tea.
