An Edinburgh care home has thanked the community for supporting its gifting initiative for local youngsters.
Working with schools in Edinburgh, the team at Care UK’s Cairdean House, on Redford Road, organised for more than 250 Christmas presents to be donated to local children, who may otherwise have gone without during the festive season.
The initiative, which began with team members at the home donating their own gifts, enabled more than 65 local children to receive four or more presents for Christmas. After posting about their idea on Facebook, the home was overwhelmed with the response from local people, who helped to raise over £1,500.
Gillian Goodall, Home Manager at Cairdean House, said: “We were completely overwhelmed by the response we had to our gifting initiative, and we can’t believe how many presents we were able to donate with the help and kindness of local people.
“The community has gone above and beyond to support us throughout the past year, and it was wonderful to be able to give something back as our way of saying thank you. We really are all in this together, and although we find ourselves in challenging circumstances, this has been an amazing reminder of the power of community spirit.
“On behalf of everyone at Cairdean House, I’d like to thank the community for every donation, Facebook share, and kind word offered by the people of Edinburgh – it really has made a huge difference to local children.”
