Now in its eighth year, the leading social care charity is appealing for help with a donation for a young person who is in the worst of situations in the toughest of times.
In Scotland, almost a quarter of homeless applications are made by young people aged 16-24. Homeless young people are often care experienced and may also face difficult family situations and find themselves homeless when having to leave the family home.
At Quarriers, we offer young people a safe roof over their heads, and all the support we can give them. Christmas gifts from Quarriers’ Box of Hope appeal may be the only gift they receive this year.
There are three Boxes of Hope available to help to spread festive cheer including:
• A £2 donation could give a young person their favourite chocolate on Christmas morning
• A £6 donation will provide a young person with toiletries such as bubble bath or shower gel to pamper and care for themselves
• A £10 donation could help to keep a young person cosy with a box which includes gloves or a hat and scarf
Fiona Nicolson, Head of Service – Children, families and young people for Quarriers said: “2020 has been an extremely difficult year for everyone and this is especially true for the homeless young people we support.
“They may not have had the childhood they’re entitled to, and those experiences could have had a lasting impact on their resilience and mental health.
“They may not have had family to support them during this terrible time and after months of isolation they are facing spending the festive season alone.
“Every service will be different, and will closely follow the guidance as Christmas approaches. But what remains true is that Quarriers is working hard to help young people feel less alone on Christmas day.
“That one small gift could help them know that someone is thinking of them and that people care and this could help to make this Christmas a special day.”
