Edinburgh University Students’ Association has the unique claim to being the only students’ union playing host to the world’s largest arts festival.
The Association is run by, and for, students, and represents around 40,000 members. As a registered charity all income raised by Edinburgh University Students’ Association funds year-round services that support students.
Throughout the month Teviot Row House (Gilded Balloon), Potterrow Dome and the Pleasance Courtyard are transformed into not only the city’s top Fringe venues, but eating and drinking destinations.
Andrew Wilson, Edinburgh University Students’ Association President said: “I am so proud that the Students’ Association is able to play host to the world’s largest arts festival, with exciting opportunities for our membership to showcase their talents to millions of visitors to the city. The vital revenue we generate as a result of the Fringe Festival is all reinvested back into providing services that improve the student experience all year round, from our society support to our impartial advice service.”
Gilded Garden (located beside Gilded Balloon)
For 2019 there is a host of outlets in the Gilded Garden offering a range of food and drink in a relaxing atmosphere at the heart of the Fringe. From savoury delights including street food and burgers, through to ice cream - all your culinary cravings are catered to. Plus there are three great bars with all the usual favourites plus craft beer, a range of gins, and cocktails.
FREE Entertainment
This year for the very first time, the Gilded Garden at Teviot Row House boasts a big screen and stage. You can catch showcase performances from top Gilded Balloon performers, outdoor screenings of classic movies, and Edinburgh’s best DJs - including Late & Live’s Andrew Mclelland every Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Sunday is made for relaxing; with jazz performances throughout the day.
Outlets in the garden include: Garden Bar; Gilded Bar; Edinburgh Gin Bar; Teviot Burger Grill; Fire & Dough; Linton & Co.; Babu Bombay Street Kitchen; Rost, Chunks Ice Cream; Big Mountain Mac & Cheese; and the Cheesy Toast Shack.
The Library Bar, Lounge and New Amphion Bars are also open inside Teviot Row House serving a wide range of meals, snacks and drinks.
Pleasance Courtyard
Over at the Pleasance Courtyard there is a diverse food and drink offering including the Main and Wee Courtyard Bars, two Prosecco Bars, Crags Bar, Charlie’s Wine Bar & Café with 2 kids meals for £8, Pleasance Burger Grill, Kidzone café, Grey Goose Espresso Martini Bar, Stewart Brewing Bar, Lov Mexican, Mint Food, LovCrepes and Pizza Geeks. By the Grand Theatre is a new Pravha Grand Bar with covered seating area, as well as the Baby Grand Freixenet van.
Pleasance Dome
In the Pleasance Dome, Vegan eatery Humpit and Baristo are open, with the Dome Bar getting an Edinburgh Gin Seaside makeover, and the Island Bar transporting you to lazy days on the beach courtesy of Sharp’s Offshore Pilsner. There is something for everybody. Visitors can enjoy the food, drink and entertainment at all venues, knowing they are also supporting Edinburgh University Students’ Association and its work.
Family Friendly
All of the Students’ Association venues offer family friendly spaces. Pleasance Dome offers a great space to duck out of the rain with the kids to get a bite to eat in a relaxed setting.
For families looking for somewhere to take the kids in the morning, the big screen in the Gilded Garden will be showing CBeebies, so the kids can grab a bean bag and get comfy while you can relax and have a coffee. And when lunchtime hits, there is a 2 kids meals for £8 offer running in the Library Bar.
Pleasance Courtyard is home to the Kidszone, with a café stocked with great lunch options for the little ones, and inside in Charlies bar there is a two kids meals for £8 offer.
Secret Pita and hummus heaven awaits inside the Pleasance Dome
100% vegan Hummus and Pita Bar, Humpit, lies just inside Pleasance Dome and is a not to miss during this year’s festival. “Best hummus and falafel around! The food is cheap, tasty, fresh and the service is wonderful!” **** Happy Cow
