Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it’s Forth 2 Breakfast Show host Ewen Cameron powering off from John O’Groats in a mad dash to reach the V&A Dundee before Homerun presenter Gina McKie.
Dressed appropriately, cape and all, Ewen will be leaving the most northern spot on Scotland’s mainland at 6am on Friday, 10 May as part of Forth 2’s Superhero Day, raising money for Cash for Kids along the way.
He’ll be calling in at MFR’s Inverness base as well as visiting supporters, projects and beneficiaries of Cash For Kids and Superhero Day, then it’s onwards to sister station Northsound 2 in Aberdeen before finally powering on to the V&A in Dundee.
Meanwhile Gina McKie will be starting from Gretna Green, heading first to West Sound in Dumfries and then northward to West Sound in Ayr and Clyde 2 in Glasgow before taking the cross country route to Forth 2, the River Forth and the Queensferry Crossing for the trip through Fife to Dundee.
Both will be heading to the home of Tay 2 to visit Dundee’s landmark design museum, from where Fraser Thomson will be presenting his ‘Through The Day’ show. Listeners can look out for them as they clock up the miles in the striking pink and blue ‘Dashmobiles’, generously donated and branded by Cash For Kids supporters, Arnold Clark.
It’s going to be a crazy escapade of dashing and cashing in on the goodwill of listeners keen to support this great cause. Will Ewen and Gina’s super powers save the day?
Ewen said: “I’ve picked up my cape from the cleaners and now I’m ready to do battle with any evil baddies who come between me and the finish line. Let’s do this for the kids.”
Gina said: “I’m guaranteed to fly through the front door of the V&A in my Supergirl outfit first, while Ewen’s still struggling to pull on his pants on over his tights. In the race to raise the most money for Cash for Kids there can only be one winner and it’s not going to be the man in pants.”
If last years’ efforts are anything to go by, when £5.8 million was raised for Cash for Kids across Scotland, then our Superheroes should both be victorious, regardless of who is first to ‘dash’ through the doors of the V&A.
In 2018 nearly 250,000 vulnerable and disadvantaged children were helped across Scotland by Cash For Kids and all the money raised in the local area, stays in the local area.
Listeners across the country should look out for the pink and blue ‘Dashmobiles’ on Friday, 10 May and do their bit to support radio’s caped crusaders on Superhero Day.
Listeners can make a £5 donation to Cash for Kids by simply texting ‘Ewen’ or ‘Gina’ to 70808*
