The Safari Lounge was discovered circa July 2013 in a former and near extinct watering hole ‘The Station Bar’ all in the tropical surroundings of AbbeyHill, Edinburgh. Our friendly staff have since been providing quality provisions and libations to both the natives and weary travellers alike.
Since opening we have already been ‘Hitlisted’ by the List for our food in our quest in taking diners on a culinary safari, with inspiration taken from all corners of the globe… ‘Korean Momo Fuku Buns’… ‘Mexican Tacos with a twist’…. ‘New Orleans Creole Style Fish of the day with Jambalaya’… ‘North African Lamb Tagine’ or ‘Harissa Kohlrabi Sushi’ to name but a few as well as our well known favourites such as ‘The Jungle Brother Dog’, ‘Mussel Popcorn’ and newcomer ‘Squid Spaghetti’. Our normal eats are always backed up by daily special trail bites that can be just that; a small eat for one or something more for sharing. We also have a brunch menu with a punch served at the weekends and budget lunch menu through the week. Furthermore all these meals are made using local suppliers such as Tattie Shaws greengrocers, Breadwinner bakers, P.M. Ranaldi fish merchants and Rajah’s Halal butcher. This all means your visit to The Safari Lounge is well worth the trip! Check out the menus on the menu tab for yourself…you won’t be disappointed!
We also have the drinks to match the food. We have our own Safari Lounge Lager brewed here in the land of Dun Barra as well as a fine selection of continental lagers. There is always 3 cask ales on constant rotation, pumping out the best the UK has to offer from an abundance of quality micro breweries. We also have a massive bottle range, stocking some of these fine examples as well as always having on a number of other beers from around the world; so yes we do “craft beers”… but we’re not gonna smack you in the face with a big rubber stamp saying we do… we just do….
And then we come to the wine… a fine selection chosen after a number of seriously long nights and horrible fuzzy mornings! Then there is our cocktail menu, forever evolving as we keep up with the new movers in the spirit market as well as keeping them seasonal. Have a look out for our cocktail of the week which is always worth a try. Our coffee is Fairtrade, as is our coco powder and tea is supplied by local tea goddess ‘Miss IntegriTea.
You can also reserve an area for simply get-togethers or for parties such as birthdays. We have a number of different options so check out the bookings/functions tab and you could be having a safari adventure in the ‘Snake Pit’ or having a roaring good time with friends in ‘The Tigers Den’! What’s more is that you could hire one of the rooms for gigs, club nights, comedy or any other sort of entertainment as well as meetings, product launches etc. We also have are own PA and other necessary audio equipment making it a perfect venue for almost anything.
Finally, please also note that The Safari Lounge is family friendly with cubs of any age allowed to join in the safari adventure up to 8pm. With a special cubs menu with free ice cream available from the chef-co-dile, high chairs, cuddly toys, baby changing and endless jungle stories, you’ll also be able to enjoy your own personal safari time. And don’t worry, if cubs are allowed, so are dugs!
