The Queens Arms on the city's Frederick Street is inviting people to have a go at stabbing their own haggis at the table under the expert guidance of its head chef and in-house team.
Stabbing a haggis is a traditional part of a Burns Supper ceremony, performed dramatically with a large knife while reciting Robert Burns' famous poem, ‘Address to a Haggis’. The custom celebrates the national dish of Scotland and honours the memory of Rabbie Burns as part of the annual occasion.
From 7pm on Sunday 25th January, customers will also be entertained by a traditional Scottish piper, and an official Address to the Haggis with Scottish poetry. From 8pm, the Sunday Quiz Night will have a special Scottish theme to celebrate the annual day in honour of the national bard. A nip of Loch Lomond Whisky will be included for eligible guests.
The traditional recipe haggis served at The Queens Arms is supplied by local Edinburgh craft butchers, Edgefield.
Individual and sharing ‘Stab a Haggis’ experiences for two or more people are available with mash, neeps, sauce and all the trimmings. Veggie haggis is also up for grabs.
The Queens Arms is a cosy traditional pub serving quality food, cask ales and fine whiskies.
Head chef of The Queens Arms, Paul Kane, said: “We’re adding a cracking bit of drama to our Burns Night celebrations this year with the ultimate ‘Stab A Haggis’ experience for three consecutive nights on 23rd, 24th and 25th January.
“Under the expert guidance of our in-house team, this show-stopper event will give customers the chance to stab their own haggis at the table. On Sunday night, we’re also serving up a traditional Scottish piper, an official Address to the Haggis, Scottish-themed Sunday Quiz Night, and a nip of Loch Lomond Whisky with each haggis.
“A hidden jewel below the cobbles of Edinburgh’s Frederick Street, The Queens Arms is everything a comfortable, quality pub should be, steeped in heritage with a passion for quality. We think it’s the perfect city centre venue to celebrate Rabbie Burns.”
