This January, Jun Au - chef-owner of Edinburgh’s award-winning Asian restaurant, Pomelo - will be holding pop-ups in two neighbourhood restaurants across the city - Argile in Marchmont and Norah in Newhaven.
Pomelo x Argile
On the 20th and 21st of January, Jun and Argile’s Jack Montgomery will collaborate on a six course tasting menu that celebrates delicious plant-based produce with a veganuary feast. Served chef’s table-style, the menu will infuse the big-hitting Asian flavours that Pomelo is so loved for, with Argile’s seasonal, contemporary French cookery.
The tasting menu comprises:
Fried Jerusalem artichoke
Mapo tofu
Butternut squash croquette with sea buckthorn
Candied seaweed and mushroom tortellini
96h onion broth and pickled main de bouddha
Miso and salt-baked celeriac fondant
Salsify puree, cocoa and oyster leaf
Chewy beets
Black sesame pesto and espuma of black garlic
Lemon and tangerine ice cream mochi
Warm amazake rice pudding
Carpaccio of persimmon compressed with piment d’espelette
Each evening will take place over two sittings - 5:30pm and 7:45pm - and will be limited to just 10 covers per sitting. The tasting menu is priced at £65 per person, including service. Bookings are essential, and can be made via Argile’s booking system argilerestaurant.superbexperience.com
Pomelo at Norah
On the 30th and 31st of January, Jun will be heading to Newhaven, to pop-up at the neighbourhood’s hottest new restaurant, Norah. Jun will be bringing a taste of Pomelo to Newhaven harbour, with a seafood focussed set menu inspired by Scotland’s shores.
The set menu comprises:
Trout tartare tartlets
Prawn toast, spring onion soy emulsion and hot sauce
Persimmon, red fleshed radish chai squash puree and mole seco
Battered broccolini, hot honey and miso bean puree
Scallops in xo sauce with eel and salsify
Monkfish, dashi roe sauce and potato espuma
Banoffee pie with fish sauce caramel
Each evening will take place over two sittings - 6:30pm and 8:30pm. The set menu will be priced at £65 per person. Bookings are essential and can be made via Pomelo’s bookings system pomelocafeedin.resos.com
Jun Au opened Pomelo, in 2021 at the age of just 23, as a neighbourhood eatery serving the hand ripped noodles he had grown up eating at home. The cafe’s reputation for its hand-ripped noodle bowls soon attracted long queues of customers eager to get their hands on the noodles for lunch, before they inevitably sold out. Popularity grew by word of mouth and The Times and The Guardian both named it one of Edinburgh's must visit restaurants. By 2023, Pomelo’s success prompted a move to a larger 24-cover location offering Asian ‘brunch’, lunch and dinner.
Last year, Jun was awarded an esteemed Acorn Award, as well as listed in CODE's 2025 30 Under 30. Pomelo was also listed in the Good Food Guide’s 100 Best Local Restaurants.
