A care home in Edinburgh has opened its very own art exhibition.
Rivalling the Scottish National Gallery, Care UK’s Cairdean House care home, on Redford Road, officially cut the ribbon on its art exhibition earlier this month.
With works of art created around the theme of ‘Reflection’, exhibits included a peacock sculpture, sand bottles, tie dying and abstract art. A piece from the youngsters at Lanark Road Nursery also featured, which included handprints and fingerpainting.
Commenting on their afternoon of art and culture, 89-year-old resident, Winifred, said: “I really enjoyed the art exhibition. It was fantastic to see how all of the different suites interpreted the theme, and the submission from our tiny friends at Lanark Road Nursery was the cherry on the cake.”
Gillian Goodall, Home Manager at Cairdean House, added: “Everyone had a wonderful time creating their masterpieces for the exhibition, before enjoying a sophisticated afternoon at the gallery.
“Art and creative activities can be incredibly beneficial for older people, particularly those living with dementia, as it provides an alternative way to communicate and express emotion. This can be therapeutic, as well as helping to improve physical dexterity, such as motor skills and arm strength.
“Our first exhibition was a huge success, and we are already planning our second. We are looking forward to inviting along members of the public to enjoy our creations as soon as we are able.”
Cairdean House is a modern care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable the residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation.
