The Grassmarket Community Project supports many of Edinburgh's most vulnerable. From the homeless, people roughsleeping, to people with a disability or mental health issue. We provide a safe welcoming supportive space for people to re-connect with others or services for support . We deliver a diverse range of activities, training and support believing everyone should have the opportunity to contribute to the lives of others and to develop to their full potential. To many of our members we are their family. To some we are told that we are the only reasons they are alive.
Grassmarket Community Project will struggle to provide on-going support in any form and retain our exceptionally committed staff team during this outbreak of C virus.
Many of our staff volunteer and have always volunteer for the project by helping run the cafe, supporting fundraisers, doing sponsored walks cutting hair and supporting residentials for members by volunteering a week or so of their time. Many of our staff were members once at the project and came here at their lowest - volunteered, learnt skills and eventually became a valued member of the paid staff team.
65% of our funding comes from customer facing social enterprises - our events space and our cafe. We will loose tens of thousands of pounds as a result of the self-isolation and local, national and UK government advice. For everyday that we are closed we stand to lose considerable income. Our members really value the relationship they have with our staff - we are desperate to retain as many as we can and keep of providing some level of support to the most vulnerable.
Can you help? Please, if you can make a donation to our project's 'Plan C' funding to help us get through this period and support us into the next we would be exceptionally grateful.
