At Happy Yoga, we practice Hatha yoga with positive thinking and mindfulness meditation in mind, and combine it with Vinyasa yoga in order to achieve strength for the entire body, connecting the breath with the body in each posture. Through focusing on sets of poses that target specific areas of the body, we gain flexibility at a steady pace that's comfortable and enjoyable for the individual. The majority of fitness classes reinforce the idea of attaining a 'perfect' body, but in our yoga classes, we want to promote positive body image by feeling comfortable in our own skin, not aspiring to achieve the looks of another.
Positive body image can only happen when you can learn to be happy with who you are, both visually and inside. Being comfortable in our own skin isn't something that comes easily to us in a world that in its very nature wants us to constantly monitor our efforts towards looking as good as the photoshopped model on a magazine cover. Mindfulness allows us to become happy within ourselves by allowing the individual to take some time away from the stressful world that surrounds us, and just acknowledge our feelings, emotions, surroundings and anything else; we learn to just be at one with these thoughts and feelings. By doing this, you actually live in the moment instead of worrying about what the future holds, or fretting over a past event.
Happy Yoga combines these aspects into its practice, and in classes we achieve greater stability, both in the strength and flexibility of our bodies, and more importantly, in our lives.
