Discover the joy of making something truly unique in this immersive footstool workshop in Edinburgh. Guided by an experienced tutor, you’ll learn the basics of upholstery while designing and building a modern footstool that reflects your personal style.
This relaxed session is suitable for complete beginners as well as more confident makers. You’ll transform a handcrafted footstool base (made in the tutor’s own workshop) into a finished piece of furniture. With a small group and plenty of one-to-one support, you’ll be able to work confidently at your own pace.
What to expect:
• A 3-hour guided upholstery workshop in a friendly, creative setting.
• Your own workstation with individual support throughout.
• Learn upholstery basics and staple-fixing techniques.
• Prepare the stool body and neatly fold fabric around corners and legs.
• Stain and finish the wooden legs.
• Tips tailored specifically to your chosen stool and fabric.
Optional bonus: a free matching cushion cover if you have fabric left over and time.
Stool sizes:
Small footstool (L40 × W30 × H30cm) — included
Medium footstool (L50 × W40 × H35cm) — £20 extra
Large footstool/coffee table (L60 × W50 × H40cm) — £40 extra
By the end of the workshop, you’ll head home with a beautifully upholstered footstool, practical upholstery skills, and a real sense of pride in having created a functional piece of furniture from scratch.
