This tactile and hands-on workshop offers an introduction to some of the essential techniques of traditional goldwork embroidery. It is Ideal for beginners to gold work and those with general embroidery experience. The class is designed to gently build skills and confidence while exploring this richly decorative and historic craft.
During the session, participants will be guided through the following techniques:
• Felt padding
• Applying kid leather
• Couching with pearl purl
• Couching with Japanese thread
• Chipping using bright check
By the end of the workshop, each participant will have completed a small decorative sampler showcasing all techniques covered. This piece will serve as both a keepsake and a valuable reference for future goldwork and embroidery projects.
This class is suitable for beginners to goldwork embroidery. It is best suited to embroiderers who have some prior experience with hand embroidery but have not previously worked with goldwork techniques. All required materials are provided, however participants are also welcome to bring personal supplies, such as beads, goldwork threads, or preferred ground fabrics, if they wish.
