A queer historical farce, performed in a real 18th century drawing room. Witty, scandalous and exuberant, think Oscar Wilde meets Blackadder.
Tartan Tabletop presents this original historical comedy by local Edinburgh playwright Benjamin Rome Clarke, performed as part of the National Trust for Scotland's celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month.
The play follows a husband and wife who marry to hide their homosexuality amidst the high society of 18th Century Edinburgh.
A farce plays out behind the scenes of their idyllic Georgian lifestyle, leading to a disastrous afternoon tea, an impromptu duel and the theft of a priceless diamond.
The script is bombastic, scandalous and savagely witty, a uniquely Scottish spin on such historic gems as Molière's "Tartuffe", " Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest" and BBC's "Blackadder".
Best of all - the whole thing will be performed in the real 1790s drawing room of The Georgian House.
