About Stories of Endurance: and a Burns Supper

Burns Supper: Stories of Endurance
Part of the Common Ground Weekender | Supporting Leith Community Crofts

Join us for a memorable evening celebrating Scotland’s Bard, Robert Burns, with a twist – an inspiring focus on endurance and the strength of community.

What’s Included:
Inspiring stories of endurance and resilience from four of the most inspiring runners in Scotland:

Kayleigh Webster, who went from "Couch to 5k" in 2020 to winning the Golspie Backyard Ultra four years later, running 129 miles in 31 hours. She is now a qualified coach and author, with her own business Run Smile Inspire.

Ivor Normand, another member of Scotland's all-conquering Backyard team, who ran 133 miles at the Portland BYU last year and won the Men's Over-60 category - more than 5 standard marathons in a single go.

Cat Bruce, Boston Marathon veteran and founder of Blast Running, which provides racing for all distances and abilities and regularly contributes to charity.

Robin Thomas, one of the most iconic figures in Scottish running, who survived life-threatening injury to found the famous Hunters Bog Trotters and become the only person ever to complete the 3 x 100 Challenge, with verification - 100 miles in 100 hours during which he would drink 100 pints of beer.

Inviting them to tell their stories will be Vicky Allan, award-winning Herald journalist, author and evangelist for Wild Swimming.

The discussion will be followed by...

Traditional Burns Supper with haggis, neeps & tatties (with veggie haggis option).
Poetry and music, with the Address to the Haggis by the award-winning Indian-born poet Medha Singh, fresh from reading her poetry at the Burns Room at the Scottish Parliament.

A warm, welcoming atmosphere rooted in local pride... and a licence bar.

Why Attend?
This event is part of the Common Ground Weekender, a celebration of culture, creativity, and community and of course endurance and running. All proceeds go to Leith Community Crofts, supporting green spaces and local food initiatives that make a real difference in Leith.
