Bagpipes at 7pm
Poetry throughout the meal. Addressing the haggis with the main course.
Live music from 9pm
On the night the bard was born,
When winter holds the closes close
And Edinburgh breathes old verse and fire,
The George IV Bar throws open its doors.
By candle-glow and claret deep,
We'll honour Rabbie as he should be—
With bellies full and spirits high,
Where laughter rhymes with poetry.
The skirl of the bagpipes will call the hall to order,
A proud Address rings out to the haggis bold,
Steel meets platter, words meet thunder,
And tradition is carved as it ever was.
A three-course supper warms the bones,
While Burns' verses rise once more—
Recited, remembered, and roared aloud
As live music carries them from table to table.
So come, friends, lovers, rogues, and kin,
Raise a glass to love, to wit, to flame.
For one fine night, beneath old beams and better words,
Scotland remembers itself.
Guid cheer, guid meat, guid company — and guid poetry.
uisge-beatha, tapadh leat.
