Nick Devison is an artist and academic based in Edinburgh, UK. Nick uses printmaking as a medium for exploring ideas, solving problems and creating new visual connections. Although his practice is rooted in tradition, he is constantly surprised by the possibilities for innovation and experimentation that printmaking provides. In recent work Nick has used found source material as a means of exploring visual ideas, from engineering drawings to alchemical engravings and from cosmological diagrams, to renaissance perspectival illustration. In this he is interested in finding the connections which emerge between invention and appropriation and between the magical and the rational.
Nick is Principal of Leith School of Art in Edinburgh and has over thirty years experience of leadership and teaching. Prior to his current post Nick was a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for MA Fine Art and MA Printmaking at Anglia Ruskin University. He is currently external examiner for MA Fine Art: Printmaking and MA Fine Art: Drawing at Camberwell College of Arts.
Nick trained in Fine Art Painting at Wimbledon School of Art prior to completing his MA in Fine Art Printmaking at Camberwell College of Art. He is a Fellow of Advance HE.
He has contributed to national and international exhibitions and conferences and has work represented in a number of collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
