This is not a traditional race - it’s a challenge of speed, strategy and local know-how. Your opponent? Edinburgh’s tram.
All runners gather at Edinburgh Park Central before hopping on the early morning tram to their chosen drop-off point. Once the doors open, the clock starts. The goal is simple: get back to Edinburgh Park Central before the tram does.
You can choose from three starting locations, each with its own distance and time limit:
St Andrew Square – around 5.5 miles with 70 minutes to make it back
Foot of the Walk – roughly 7 miles with 60 minutes to make it back
Newhaven Terminus – approximately 7.5 miles with just 50 minutes to make it back
There’s no fixed route.
Whether you prefer the quickest line, the flattest streets or a scenic detour, the choice is yours. Planning, pacing and smart navigation are all part of the fun.
Race the Tram is open to runners of all abilities. Under-17s are welcome when accompanied by a responsible adult.
Everyone who beats the tram will receive a goodie bag and race memento, with prizes awarded to the first three finishers from each starting location.
This is a self-timed challenge rather than a chip-timed race, with no road closures in place, so runners must take care and cross roads safely.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
