About British Interior Design Since 1925
After the First World War, Interior Design emerged in Britain as a distinctive profession, one that used fresh eyes and imagination to transform edifices old and new into environments that satisfied aesthetic appetites and enhanced the experiences of those who used them. Join Bruce Peter as he discusses rapid changes in popular taste, from Art Deco to Modernism, Romance to hi tech, Minimalism to Maximalism and the role individual designers, magazines, retailers (including IKEA), DIY and technology have played in shaping our commercial and domestic spaces.
The event includes entry to IKEA: Magical Patterns before the talk from 4.30pm, and will be followed by a drinks reception in the Dovecot Cafe to mark the launch of the new book British Interior Design since 1925 by Bruce Peter and Drew Plunkett (2025, Lund Humphries).
