Greyfriar's Bobby in A.I. Wonderland is an immersive, theatrical haunted maze taking place in Scotland's largest nuclear bunker, Barnton Bunker, this October 24 - November 2. (Hosted by the Barnton Bunker Preservation Society.)
Attendees will follow Edinburgh's favorite loyal dog, Greyfriar's Bobby, down the A I. rabbit hole into a twisted reimagining of Alice in Wonderland, where Bobby (as Alice) journeys through uncanny characters and broken storylines, exploring our fears and fascinations surrounding Artificial Intelligence. Automation of jobs? Destruction of art? AI companions? AI uprising? Will Bobby—and humanity—survive?
This dark haunted bunker experience is full of jump scares, whimsical fantasy imagery, spooky corridors and delightfully creepy (sometimes disturbing!) scenarios and characters, but there is also a not-so-scary hour each day that focuses on the atmosphere, story, has friendly monsters and no jump scares.
Designed and directed by Jean Paul Archambeault, resident artist and storyteller, with art and characters created and performed by the other Barnton Bunker Preservation Society volunteers and himself, this is the second haunted house hosted by Barnton Bunker. Last year's "Greyfriar's Bobby VS. The Radioactive Underworld" followed Bobby into the dark depths, through the history of the bunker, across the river Styx, and a harrowing trek across dimensions to find his beloved owner and friend- reminiscent of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.
This event will serve as a not only the most unique Halloween offering in Edinburgh because of it's creative storytelling, exploration of AI, and atmospheric venue...but also as a fundraiser to help our charity organization restore areas of the bunker damaged by fires in the 90's, and to transform the bunker into a haven for the arts, cultural celebrations, and inspiring offbeat creative visions that will entertain, educate, and build community for all of Edinburgh to enjoy!
Completely volunteer created, "Greyfriar's Bobby in A.I. Wonderland" is an experience you will be thinking about, (and haunted by!) long after the final screams fade away into the night...if you can awaken from the nightmare!
