Ready to take your sewing skills to the next level while doing your bit for the planet? Join us for Upcycled Style, an inspiring and creative sewing workshop where you’ll transform existing clothing into a stylish, one-of-a-kind new garment. Whether it’s a stash of unworn T-shirts, a stack of old shirts, or something thrifted from the back of the wardrobe, we’ll help you reimagine and recreate them into something fabulous.
We all have those garments lurking in the back of the wardrobe – pieces we love for their colour, print, or fabric, but never wear because they no longer fit, feel dated, or just don’t suit us anymore. Upcycled Style is the perfect opportunity to give them a fresh start. By blending them with another item or updating the shape and styling, you’ll breathe new life into something you couldn’t bear to part with – and create a truly unique garment that reflects your personal style.
This workshop is a revamped and expanded version of our much-loved T-shirt Upcycling class, now with more design possibilities, contemporary sewing techniques, and trend-led styling. Patchwork, panelling, and colour-blocking are huge this season – and this is your chance to master them using clothing you already own. Don’t buy new – recreate instead!
What you’ll learn in Upcycled Style:
How to plan and cut a new garment from existing clothes
Design ideas using patchwork, piecing, and colour blocking
Construction techniques using an overlocker or *sewing machine
Finishing methods for a professional look
*This is the perfect follow-on class if you’ve completed Know Your Overlocker and want to put your new skills into creative action. You’ll get hands-on experience using the overlocker to piece fabrics together quickly and neatly – but a regular sewing machine can also be used, so don’t worry if you haven’t taken that class yet.
Bring along clean garments (T-shirts, sweatshirts, cotton shirts, or lightweight jerseys work best), and we’ll provide the design inspiration and technical support. Suitable for confident beginners and improvers.
Why upcycle?
There’s already enough clothing on the planet to clothe the next six generations. Upcycling helps reduce textile waste, save money, and promote sustainable fashion – all while expressing your creativity and building sewing confidence.
