MaMa, directed and performed by Kirsten Newell and Oxana Banshikova, is a new Bharatanatyam based dance production on the themes of pregnancy and early motherhood. Combining classical South Asian dance with contemporary choreography, two dancers explore and share their journeys as mothers. The performance is accompanied by originally composed music weaving together Celtic and Carnatic sounds.
MaMa Workshop & Performance – Cosmic Dance

When: Wednesday 15 June
Where: Edinburgh College Granton Campus (350 West Granton Road)
Timings:
11am - 12pm: Workshop
12pm - 2pm: Comfort break, refreshments and free arts / storytelling activities from Muirhouse Library (at the college)
2pm - 2.50pm: MaMa performance
About the Workshop:
A FREE multi-sensory, creative workshop for local parents with their babies and toddlers (ages 0-5), living in the local area (Muirhouse, Granton, Pilton and Drylaw).
Join dancers Kirsten and Oxana (Cosmic Dance) and midwife Jenny Patterson in an open and welcoming sharing session.
As a group we will learn about South Asian dance, Mudras and storytelling. Kirsten and Oxana will teach the group simple Bharatanatyam rhythms and clapping/tapping, and introduce the colours, fabrics and lights present within South Asian dance, providing parents with inspiration for new ways to interact and play with their babies and toddlers.
We hope everyone attending the workshop will also join us for the performance at 2pm.
The themes of pregnancy, parenthood and nature are explored in the workshop and performance, and there will be time for parents to share their own thoughts and experiences and connect with other parents in a safe, supported space.
The workshop will be for a small group, so if you would be interested in attending please book the Workshop + Performance ticket or contact North Edinburgh Arts on 0131 315 2151 (Monday - Friday, 9am - 2pm) or by emailing: admin@northedinburgharts.co.uk
