The all-star Playtime quartet of Martin Kershaw (saxes), Graeme Stephen (guitar), Mario Caribe (bass) and Tom Bancroft (drums) returns to its original home - The Outhouse on 28th April!
About Playtime: Back in the Outhouse
Saxophonist Martin Kershaw and guitarist Graeme Stephen founded Playtime with bassist Mario Caribe and drummer Tom Bancroft in 2014 to give them an opportunity to try out new ideas, play new compositions and pay homage to jazz giants.
They went on to create a real buzz around the Outhouse in Broughton Street's loft space every second Thursday by presenting informal sessions of superb quality. Tributes have been paid to Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Keith Jarrett and Pat Metheny, to name just a few of the heroes whose music the quartet has honoured, and an album of completely free improvisation, showing another side of Playtime, has been released to considerable acclaim.
During the Covid pandemic, the quartet continued its quest for adventure by live-streaming from multiple locations and expanding into international sessions with musicians from New York, Amsterdam, Tokyo and London. They also managed to fit in some live concerts at Village Hall.
This latest session sees them back at their original home, the Outhouse, with their original quartet line-up playing new music and new arrangements of favourites from the jazz canon.
