Art & Ornament is a collaboration with Master Carvers’ Association and friends, to commemorate and celebrate the legendary Baroque Master, Grinling Gibbons. The tercentenary of Grinling Gibbons, is an anniversary Master Carvers’ Association have chosen to mark with a demonstration of current practice, the living legacy of his influence. Over 40 Artists and Makers from all over Britain will be exhibiting to complement the marble overmantel located in Dalkeith Palace – Neptune Summoning Galatea – which was commissioned for The Palace from Gibbons by Anna Buccleuch in 1701. A selection of work will be available for sale.
Art & Ornament in Conversation:
On Friday 15 April a programme of talks will take place in Dalkeith Palace from 09.00 to 13.00. A series of speakers will be sharing and celebrating contemporary and historic perspectives in Gibbons’ tercentenary year. Speakers include Ian Gow, Graciela Ainsworth, Holly Trusted, Hugh Buchanan, Tim Wright, Crispin Powell and Hugh Wedderburn.
Tickets cost £12.50 for the series and will be followed by a tour of the exhibition.
