The Westbourne House Choir hails from Westbourne House School, a preparatory school near Chichester on the south coast of England, and consists of some 45 boys and girls aged between ten and thirteen. The choir is led by the Director of Music, Mr Alexander Dichmont, and accompanied by Mr Richard Allum.
As well as leading the music at Westbourne House School’s weekly chapel services, the choir is known for regularly singing Evensong at Chichester Cathedral, performing at weddings and other events in their local area, and giving concerts at prestigious venues in and around Chichester, such as Arundel Cathedral, Boxgrove Priory and Petworth Church. Whilst church music forms the majority of their repertoire, the choir also forms the basis of the chorus for the school’s annual musical productions and regularly provides the top line for an adult mixed choir in their local area, the Shopwyke Singers, with whom they have sung choral works such as the Requiems by Faure and Durufle, Orff’s ‘Carmina Burana’ and Rutter’s ‘Mass of the Children’.
The choir has greatly enjoyed previous tours to Rome, Paris, Paris, Belgium and Tuscany, singing in wonderful venues including St Peter’s Basilica, Chartres, Brussels and Pisa Cathedrals and the Eglise Madeleine. Four CDs of choral music have recently been released, including a disc of Christmas Carols, “Midwinter”.
The choir are delighted to be performing for audiences in Edinburgh and Haddington and they will be singing the following programme of sacred music:
