Venue: Pathhead Village Hall, 11 Main Street, Pathhead EH37 5PZ
Four of Scotland's leading jazz musicians invite you to enjoy serious musicianship, fun, frolics and irreverence.
Saxophonist Martin Kershaw and guitarist Graeme Stephen founded Playtime with bassist Mario Caribe and drummer Tom Bancroft in 2014 to give them an opportunity to try out new ideas, play new compositions and pay homage to jazz giants.
They went on to create a real buzz around the Outhouse in Broughton Street's loft space every second Thursday by presenting informal sessions of superb quality.
Tributes have been paid to Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Keith Jarrett and Pat Metheny, to name just a few of the heroes whose music the quartet has honoured, and an album of completely free improvisation, showing another side of Playtime, has been released to considerable acclaim.
During the Covid pandemic, the quartet has continued its quest for adventure, live-streaming from multiple locations and recently expanding into international sessions with musicians from New York, Amsterdam and London.
Currently playing monthly gigs from Pathhead Village Hall, and streaming live, the quartet can draw on an enormous repertoire and a vast contacts book. Anything might happen but it will come with good cheer guaranteed.
