About Film Screening: But I’m A Cheerleader

Megan Bloomfield is an all American high school cheerleader who is sent by her parents to a conversion therapy camp to cure her lesbianism.

Venue: Coffee Saints, Little King Street, Edinburgh EH1 3SP

*Due to our temporary move to Coffee Saints in the Saint James Centre, this screening will be much more of a pop-up community cinema nature, with a smaller projected screen and no surround sound* BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL

Natasha Lyonne, star of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, made a big early impression in this cult 90s comedy by Jamie Babbit. Lyonne plays Megan, an all American cheerleader, who just so happens to be a lesbian. Her family intervene to try and send her to a conversion therapy camp.

Babbit's broad satire has got better with each passing year and now stands as a touchstone film of the decade. Featuring excellent support from Clea DuVall (GIRL, INTERRUPTED), Melanie Lynskey (HEAVENLY CREATURES) and Cathy Moriarty (RAGING BULL), the film also has a glorious cameo from everyone's favourite drag queen RuPaul.

NOTES: Features sexual themes and strong language.
