An amazing opportunity to do Yoga and see the Earth as it appears from the moon!
Join us for an hour of yoga under Gaia – a huge 7-metre scale model of Earth – before we open the exhibit to the public!
Grab a mat and find a space under a 23 ft replica of planet Earth, which floats majestically in the Stratosphere Hall of Dynamic Earth with stunning panoramic views of the city and Salisbury Crags.
The installation creates a sense of the overview effect, which was first described by author Frank White in 1987. Common features of the experience for astronauts are a feeling of awe for the planet, a profound understanding of the interconnectivity of all life, and a renewed sense of responsibility for taking care of the environment. The artwork is 1.8 million times smaller than the real Earth, but each centimeter of the internally lit sculpture captures the beauty of 18km of the Earth’s surface. Ponder that whilst you're trying to balance on three toes!
Sessions are available on the 24th and 31st October and suitable for all levels of experience. Doors open at 8.15 am, with the class beginning at 8.30 am and running for one hour.
Please remember to bring your own yoga mat for this event and ensure that you wear suitable comfortable clothing.
Entry is via the main entrance to Dynamic Earth on Holyrood Road.
Our Yoga instructor is Bex Hunt.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
