Dubbed the ‘most exciting violinist in the world’, Moldovan/Austrian Patricia Kopatchinskaja is a force of nature. She grips audiences, delivering fiercely committed performances as if her life depends on it, blending theatrics and spellbinding eloquence, raw honesty with consummate craftsmanship. She’s a daring player like nobody else, unpredictable but revelatory, and discovers fresh new life in everything she plays.
She’s joined by the equally pioneering Turkish pianist Fazil Say – a keyboard star in his own right, famed for his brilliant playing – for this richly emotional Romantic concert.
Franz Schubert packs all the drama and incident of a fully fledged sonata into his miniature Sonatine, while Janáček’s own earthy Violin Sonata is an intense outpouring of emotion, from anguish to joy.
Brahms’s Third Violin Sonata is one of the cornerstones of the violin repertoire: stormy, fiery, serious-minded and compelling, demanding technical agility from both of its players.
