Exploring Edinburgh’s Volcano - Adults and Young People

About Exploring Edinburgh’s Volcano - Adults and Young People

Age 12+

Long before dinosaurs ruled the Earth, Edinburgh was part of a ‘ring of fire’ like the one that now encircles the Pacific Ocean, with volcanoes emerging from a shallow tropical sea. Explore the evidence for these ancient volcanoes on this self-led walking tour and learn how geology still shapes the city and landscape we see today.

The ground in the park can be steep and uneven so please wear sturdy footwear with good grips. On a hot day, a bottle of water, a hat and sun cream are recommended.

The tour is 3-4.5 km, depending on optional stops at the end.

We recommend you allow 2-3 hours for this experience.
