About Saining and Scottish Folklore Online Workshop
Discover traditional Scottish folk magic practices and plant lore dating back to our early ancestors – plus some modern botany and geology!
Saining is a Scottish word meaning ‘purification’ and is a traditional Scottish folk magic practice used to cleanse spaces of negative energies and spirits through the burning of locally sourced Juniper.
In this online workshop we will discuss traditional Scottish myths about magic, protection and spells as well as how to recognise some common plants such as juniper and rowan, planted to ward off witches and their influence! You will also learn decorative knots, inspired by European knot magic, to add a finishing touch to our saining sticks, incorporating ethically sourced Scottish amethyst.
This workshop is delivered by the Edinburgh Remakery as part of a series of Gaelic events run in partnership with Invisible Cities.
This workshop will require participants to receive materials at home so please remember to provide your address when booking. Please note spaces are available for UK addresses only.
Book before Thursday May 20th at the latest to make sure all materials are with you on time!
