To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar (1995)
We close our Bad Trip season with this underrated 90s gem about three drag queens on a roadtrip to LA. When Vida (an unrecognisa- ble Patrick Swayze) and Noxeema (an equally unrecognisable Wes- ley Snipes) jointly win a NY drag pageant, they decide to drive across the country to save money, joined by novice drag queen Chi- Chi (John Leguizamo). After car troubles the three friends find them- selves marooned in a small Midwest town, where the locals are sus- picious of them, and have to make the best of their potentially dan- gerous situation. From this clash of two very different worlds; urban and rural, queer and heteronormative, comes a sense of solidarity and mutual respect that defines this funny and flamboyant comedy.
