Kajillionaire (2020)

Performance artist, writer and filmmaker Miranda July (Me And You And Everyone We Know, The Future) brings her wonderfully eccentric worldview a little closer to the mainstream in this critically acclaimed crime comedy, that was top of many film critic’s best of the year lists.

Old Dolio Dyne (Evan Rachel Wood) is a twenty-something woman struggling to extricate herself from the emotionally manipulative relationship her parents (Richard Jenkins & Debra Winger) have forged with her. Since she was a small child she has been incorporated into their various scams and frauds against her will. After a visit to New York puts their relationship at breaking point, the family are left vulnerable to the predations of another scammer with dire consequences for all. Playing out like a gonzo version of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, this was one of the last films to play in UK cinemas before lockdown in November 2020.
