About not worse; just different – art making in lockdown

‘In these difficult times’ has been a constant refrain since lockdown started, and certainly the cultural sector has been hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis with artists facing a loss of income, a lack of access to studios or the absence of opportunities to show work. Artists, however, are experts in exploring new ways of thinking and being, and it could be said that ‘in these difficult times’ we have not had less opportunities, just different ones. While still acknowledging the tragic impact of this pandemic on our lives, this discussion aims to explore the new and unexpected – sometimes positive ways – in which artists’ practices have changed.

Featuring three artists who were funded by the RSA Pandemic Award, this event is part of artist Anthony Schrag's project 'Pandemic: a personal response to COVID-19'.

Joining Anthony to discuss their work and practice during Lockdown will be Sara Alonso and Blair McLaughlin, both exhibitors in the current RSA online exhibition Latitudes. Find out more about Sara and Blair's work on the Latitude exhibition page - royalscottishacademy.viewingrooms.com/artists
