About Manipulate Festival - Tank

This event is a part of SNAPSHOTS, a strand of programming at MANIPULATE that presents works-in-progress at various stages of their development. Supported by SURGE Physical Theatre Bursary.

Lucy isn’t scared. Lucy isn’t lonely. Lucy is completely in control.

Lucy lives alone with her aquariums. Hundreds of them, filled with her fish friends – why would she ever need to leave? In Lucy’s dreams, she lives underwater, drifting with the fish through refracted light. But as reports increase on the news about rising sea levels, and the streets outside fill with protests, can she hide away forever?

tank is a one-woman show combining live performance, UV light, and digital animation, about choosing loneliness, becoming trapped by your own mind, and how trying to stay in control means you can soon spiral out of it. She might feel safer than ever, but Lucy doesn’t realise she’s just as trapped as the fish in her tanks.

And outside, the water is rising.
