Acclaimed Skye piper Malin Lewis is joined by Ali Hutton (guitar) and Shona Mooney (fiddle) in a dynamic new trio for this pre-recorded gig.
Malin is a piper, fiddler and instrument maker from Skye. They started learning the pipes at the age of 8. Very quickly an interest in Scottish music grew and they began playing the fiddle as well as bellows pipes. Malin’s main interest lies with the instrument itself and as such, they began making Smallpipes at the age of 14.
Malin currently studies piping on the degree course at the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow. Malin is also a highly talented composer and this concert’s setlist is drawn heavily from the band leader’s own oeuvre, with one tune from bandmate Mooney thrown in for good measure.
Edinburgh Tradfest Spotlight is supported by Creative Scotland, the City of Edinburgh Council and the William Grant Foundation.
