About Digital Talk: Introduction to the World of the Japanese Kimono

Japanese traditional kimono can be very humble items to wear day to day or can be more elaborate using a beautifully patterned fabrics. They can also be stunning works of art with greatly intricate and masterful embroidery or have outstanding use of dyes. These garments can bring such vibrancy, elegance and extraordinary beauty to Japanese life. The kimono has inspired the world of fashion and art.

Edinburgh based Japanese Tea Master Mio Shudo, an expert on the diverse cultures of Japan, will present an online talk aided by an illustrated powerpoint presentation. Mio will discuss the history of the kimono and share some short videos to demonstrate a number of the many cultural significances in the wearing of kimono.

Following the presentation there will be time for a Q&A with Mio Shudo.

Free, but booking essential.

All attendees will be sent joining instructions a day or so before the event. Please check your junk/spam folder if you don't hear from us by an hour before.

The lecture will be on Microsoft Teams, so if you join us on a mobile device (mobile phone or tablet) you will need to download the app (free) from the App Store / Google Play Store beforehand.
