Coming up for Air
31 July - 21 August
Open Wednesday to Saturday
An exhibition of recent work – prints, paintings and artist books – by Lynda and Ron Wilson.
This year, Edinburgh artists Lynda and Ron built new studios in their garden and have been using them to the full during lockdown, mostly producing prints and artist books. They have been using their sketchbooks from past outings for reference and making their daily walk an opportunity to sketch in the nearby Pentland Hills to the south of Edinburgh.
Both artists used the ‘lockdown’ period to experiment with new printing techniques. The prints were made on two small presses and a small screen. They are etchings using silver foil lids from takeaways, monoprints, linoprints and screenprints using stencils rather than photographic methods of image making because there was no access to sophisticated equipment.
The artist books are folded sketches made in the hills, folded prints or printed books made online. The paintings include an element of print.
The main subject matters for Lynda are the coast and the hills; for Ron, the hills and the animals there – Highland cows, chickens, sheep and horses - plus fabulous imagined beasts.

This tapestry weaving experience day at Dovecot Studios is a rare chance to learn the art of tapestry weaving at the longest running tapestry studio in the UK.
Celebrating the best in contemporary textiles, CLOTH returns to Dovecot this year with A Piece of Work, a selection of designers on the Tapestry Studio Viewing Balcony alongside an online event.
