Spirit of Shetland: Poetry, Fiddle Tunes and Watercolours
Sorry you are too late, this event has been and gone!
Immerse yourself into an evening of poetry in English and Shetlandic by Christine De Luca in the presence of Shetland watercolours by Peter Davis and fiddle tunes played by Elizabeth Peploe!
About Spirit of Shetland: Poetry, Fiddle Tunes and Watercolours
Christine De Luca - a poet who was born and raised in Shetland - has published six full collections of poetry in English and Shetlandic. The Shetland Library brought out the first three between 1994 and 2002, two of which won the Shetland Literary Prize (since discontinued) and Luath Press published two more collections between 2005 and 2010. Dat Trickster Sun, published by Mariscat Press in 2014, was shortlisted for the Michael Marks Award for Poetry Pamphlets. Christine has also published five bi-lingual collections (French, Italian, Icelandic, Norwegian and English).
The gallery is delighted to host an evening of poetry that will be in the setting of watercolours by Peter Davis - a painter who has been living and working in Shetland for 30 years. Christine De Luca will read her poems in English and Shetlandic. For a full spirit of Shetland, Elizabeth Peploe will play some Shetland tunes on fiddle.
The event is free, and donations appreciated to support 'Shetland ForWirds' - a charity promoting and preserving Shetlandic dialect.
If you book the event and are unable to attend, please cancel your booking or notify the gallery, to allow somebody else to take your seat.
