About Playtime with James Lindsay
Making his Playtime debut, bassist James Lindsay is in constant demand working with some of the top names in the UK folk and jazz circuits as well as being an award-winning composer and a respected music educator.
In 2011 he gained a 1st Class BA Honours Degree in Music but by this time was already working as a full-time musician with renowned folk group Breabach. Since joining the band James has toured extensively in Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea as well as appearing on three of the group’s releases.
As a session musician he has recorded on dozens of albums, working with producers such as Jerry Boys, John McCusker and Greg Lawson. His live work has included gigs with Bella Hardy, the Brian Molley Quartet, Treacherous Orchestra, among others, sell-out performances at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, WOMAD New Zealand, Webster Hall New York, and RIFF Festival in Jodhpur.
James was the winner of the 2014 Martyn Bennett Prize for Composition and has continued to develop as a writer, culminating with his debut release as composer and band leader, Strand.
He also plays with guitarist David Series' group, Meerkat Parade, and will be joined here by Martin Kershaw (saxes), Graeme Stephen (guitar) and Tom Bancroft (drums) to play a selection of hand-picked jazz standards, contemporary classics and original compositions.
