Dir: Joel & Ethan Coen 15, US, Comedy / Drama, 103mins
The Coen Brothers have long been creating great genre-bending cinema, but nothing they have done before or since is quite like this blackly comic take on the Book of Job. Michael Stuhlbarg stars as Larry Gopnik, the cursed patriarch of a Midwestern Jewish family, whose life unravels toward an apocalyptic reckoning. Larry just wants to be ‘mensch’, but every time he tries to do the proper thing he finds himself further down the rabbit hole.
