Grieg Lyric Pieces (selection)
Wagner (tr. Liszt) Transcriptions from Rienzi, Der fliegende Holländer, Tannhäuser & Tristan und Isolde
Wagner Sonata for the Book of Mrs. M.W
Commanding, provocative and fearlessly intelligent, remarkable Welsh pianist Llŷr Williams can dazzle and transport listeners with his astonishingly intense, captivating playing. Revered especially for his bracingly fresh insights into Beethoven, he brings a tonal finesse and deep sense of thoughtfulness to his wide repertoire of music.
Williams opens his recital with the charming musical picture-painting of a selection from Grieg’s Lyric Pieces.
Williams concludes his glittering recital with some of Liszt’s piano transcriptions of music from Wagner’s operas, as breathtakingly virtuosic as they are spiritually radiant. He also includes a rarely heard example of Wagner’s own piano music: the passionate Sonata written for his then-lover, Mathilde Wesendonck.
