Local artists Cass Barron and Mark Kirkham share some of their favourite bookbinding and sketching techniques in this collaborative workshop. The day will be split between The Arienas Collective workspace and local points of interest around Edinburgh's New Town, including the National Portrait Gallery.
Over the course of the day, Cass will introduce a range of book making techniques, including single sheet Japanese Stab binding, concertina fold books and a more substantial leather bound sketchbook.
With Mark’s guidance you will add colour washes to your pages before taking them out and about on a sketching tour of the local area. You will work on short detailed drawings to longer perspective pieces in ink and watercolour.
Both Mark and Cass will help you throughout the day and be on hand to answer any questions you may have. You will quickly pick up sketching skills while increasing your confidence in your artistic ability, and with your newfound bookbinding techniques you will be able to make your own sketchbooks forevermore!
The class size is kept small so that Cass and Mark can give you all the help and support you need to get the most from your day with us.
The price includes access to all the equipment you will need, all materials, a buffet style lunch and refreshments. And of course you will take home the lovely personalised sketchbook you have created.
