Poetry Reading with Menotti Lerro

About Poetry Reading with Menotti Lerro

Menotti Lerro's poetry is concerned with powerful imagery, the physicality and vulnerability of the body, the meaning of objects, the interpretation of memories, and the philosophical importance of identity. He is considered to be one of the most interesting contemporary European poets. Tonight, Lerro reads translations of his poetic works and discusses his co-authored New Manifesto of Arts for the first time in the UK, which he co-authored with Antonello Pelliccia.

He has published sixteen collections of poetry and other books of short stories, aphorisms, dramas and novels. In 2011, he was the subject of a critical book by Andrew Mangham entitled The Poetry of Menotti Lerro. In 2016, he was awarded with a “Special Mention” in the three selected authors for literature for the Italian National Prize “100 Italian excellences”.

Born in a small village just outside of Salerno, Southern Italy, in 1980, Lerro taught English Literature and English Culture and Civilization at the University of Linguistic Mediation (Unimed) of Milan, Italy, and gave lessons at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and IULM University of Milan. He received a Master of Arts from the University of Reading, UK, 2007, and a PhD from the University of Salerno, Italy, in 2012.
