Join leading British architect Charles Holland to discuss the creation of A House for Essex, the 21st century building designed by FAT Architecture with Grayson Perry for Living Architecture.
Nicknamed the gingerbread house and described by Grayson Perry as ‘the Taj Mahal on the river Stour’ – A House for Essex created as a shrine to fictional character Julie Cope, means many things to many people. It is a mausoleum masquerading as a holiday home, a wayside chapel dedicated to a secular saint, and a house that you can stay in. Filled with tapestries, ceramics and decoration it reflects the multiple interests of Holland and Perry in the history of Essex, narrative, folk and high art.
This talk is a rare opportunity to discuss storytelling and decoration in contemporary architecture as well as how to work in collaboration.
