About If Beale Street Could Talk: Black History Month Screening

FILM If Beale Street Could Talk (2018) – (Black History Month Screening)

Dir: Barry Jenkins, 15, US, Romance, 117mins

In his follow-up to the Oscar-winning Moonlight, Barry Jenkins has impressively reworked James Baldwin’s 1974 novel about a good love in Harlem. Tish (KiKi Layne) and Fonny (Stephan James) are two young African-Americans making there way in a New York City that feels evermore segregated along class and race lines. When Fonny is sent to prison for a crime he likely did not commit, Tish has to make the difficult decision to stand by her man. Beautifully shot, on location, by James Laxton, this is a rhapsodic romance that seems to truly believe that love can indeed conquer all.
