About Formation Festival

Formation Festival is back with a brand new programme!

Springing into life at the Assembly Roxy this summer, Formation Festival presents affordable theatre, music, spoken word and more from some of Edinburgh's finest emerging performers.

-- OUR PROGRAMME --

PINK HOUSE | Paradigm Lab | 28th, 29th, 30th JUNE
Pink House is a women’s take on belonging. Inspired by the playwright Madison Pollack's family history and migration to America, the play tells the story of a fractured household touched by loss and Antisemitism.

DR MOREAU EXPLAINS | Twisted Thistle | 28th, 29th, 30th JUNE
A new take on HG Wells' classic novel from playwright and performer Michael Daviot.
1896 or 2019? Following their highly praised debut with ‘Sherlock Holmes: The Final Reckoning’ at Formation Festival in March, Twisted Thistle return to the 1890s…. in very different style.

MOONFLY THEATRE | 28th JUNE
Fresh from taking over the Traverse Bar in January and their 'Fear and Desire' event at the Canon's Gait Bar, Moon Fly Theatre present an evening of staged readings from their works in development.

BEING LIZA | Interabang Productions | 28th, 29th, 30th JUNE
Being Liza is an original story about a girl discovering who she really is behind the mask of an icon.

DEFICIT | Deficit Theatre | 29th JUNE
Deficit, the debut work of new collective Deficit Theatre, is an incredible new piece of devised theatre that exposes the magical realism of our everyday lives. We follow five vibrant characters, Selkie, Kelpie, Wulver, Beira and Poltergeist, as they explore the many facets of the human condition.

SHOW PONY | Jonathan Whiteside Playwright/Actor | 29th, 30th JUNE
An American novelist flies to Scotland to put an ocean of distance between her and her mistakes, and to finish a book. Instead, she makes all new ones, and writes a play. Fleabag meets Young Adult set in the age of dating apps.

SAD EYES TO SMILE WITH | Activising for Change | 5th, 6th, 7th JULY
Following the success of last year’s 147hz Can’t Pass, ActivisingforChange preview their latest show. This is representation without explanation grounded in the stories we tell ourselves to make the world okay.

TOAST | Interabang Theatre | 5th, 6th, 7th JULY
A funny and compelling story of two twenty-somethings dealing with mortality and legacy in the midst of finding themselves.

Speakin' Cajun - SUMMERTIME BLUES | Poetry Circus & The Jennifer Ewan Band | 5th, 6th, 7th JULY
Summertime Blues is a non-stop cabaret-style assault of music, visuals and performance poetry; a bad ass medley of unsurpassable Cajun and Blues music paired with dramatic spoken word from some of the most outstanding verbal performance artistes in Britain.

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Formation Festival are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
