Acrylic Painting Course

About Acrylic Painting Course

Artist Suzanne Kemplay graduated in Painting and Drawing from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. She works from her studio in Edinburgh, and has exhibited at a number of Scottish Galleries. Suzanne is predominantly known for her still life work and photorealist flower paintings.

On this course, Suzanne will share the basic techniques of painting such as mixing colours, shape and form, tonal values and composition. Working with acrylic paints, you will learn about colour mixing techniques, colour values and how brush strokes can be applied in various ways.

The course is designed to encourage, and give confidence to, beginners, while also helping those who want to develop their painting skills further. It is available to book as a complete course (28 hours), as individual 2-week blocks (5 hours), plus as a weekend course (13 hours) to suit different levels, skills and interests. Please click on the links below for more information on each block.

Block 1 | Flowers | 10.30am - 1pm

Week 1: 16 September - colour theory
Week 2: 23 September - colour harmony

Block 2 | Flower Portrait | 10.30am - 1pm

Week 3: 30 September - creating a flower portrait on canvas part 1
Week 4: 7 October - creating a flower portrait on canvas part 2

Week 5: 21 October - shape and form - lighting, shape and form
Week 6: 28 October - fruit and drapes - composition

Weekend Workshop | Still Life/Flowers & Fruit | 10.30am - 5pm

2 & 3 November - on this 2-day workshop you will bring together all you have learned on the 6-week course to create a finished Still Life composition on canvas.

Class sizes are kept small so that Suzanne can give you the support you need to get the most from the course.

Please bring brushes and a paint palette with you. If you don't have your own, we can supply these initially and recommend what to buy for future classes. All other materials are provided, and refreshments are also included.

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Acrylic Painting Course are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
