Dr Richard Forth is kept busy balancing his wife Barbara's ill health, an awkward friendship with his high-maintenance ex-girlfriend and the gossiping locals of sleepy Bere Knighton. When stranger Eric Dawson shows up looking for his ex-fiancee Grace, who he claims is married to the doctor, Barbara and her friends do not know what to think. As Richard persists to deny all knowledge of Grace, Barbara's health declines and a sequence of unfortunate events befall the locals of the town. Before long, it becomes apparent that someone is trying to kill Barbara...along with anybody else who gets in the way.
