About Soundhouse: Brodie Jarvie and Fuensanta Mendez

Soundhouse Organisation

Fuensanta Méndez and Brodie Jarvie are two musicians and friends who, decided it was time to combine their love for music and present it together. The mutual love of the simplistic, honest and raw complex beauty that can be drawn from their instruments is grounding base of their ethos and approach in making music. Through folklore, strong lyrical melodies it is clear that to them their music is not attire they wear, but internally ingrained in them.

About Brodie Jarvie

Brodie’s fine sensitivity to the fibres of music make him as much a grounding force on the bass as an independent voice in any ensemble. His well-contoured play between tension and release puts the music in a constant momentum, drawing the listener closer with every note. Right now, he lives in Glasgow after completing a Masters in Music from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and as a sideman he has performed and recorded with artists such as Tommy Smith, The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, Texas and in 2015 he toured with Tom Bancroft’s ‘Trio Red’ around The United Stated including the Rochester International Jazz Festival.

About Fuensanta Méndez

The singer, bassist and composer Fuensanta Méndez was born in Veracruz. Her music grows from Latin American folklore, poetry, and contemporary jazz: sometimes refined and colourful, sometimes avant-garde and raw. Méndez started singing at the age of thirteen and formed her musical life in Mexico until 2015 when she moved to Amsterdam, where she is currently based. In 2016 she debuted with her quintet during the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours, winning the 1st prize and the press prize, as well as being selected to perform in North Sea Jazz 2017. She has recently been awarded with “Jóvenes Creadores 2019” (Young Creators) by FONCA, an artist grant for composition.
